Alba Cathay Chinese School is currently recruiting Chinese teachers starting from May and September 2011.
This is a challenging and highly satisfying teaching role which requires motivation and dedication to working as a teacher, providing a positive difference to the children you are teaching. You will be assisting in the planning and organization of lessons and your role will involve working in a classroom as well as spending time working with other teachers to ensure the effective delivery of lessons to children. You need to be able to speak mandarin and reasonably good English as our pupils are bilingual or non-Chinese speakers. Teaching experience is desirable but not essential. We are also looking for drawing and Martial Arts teachers.
Working time is every Saturday during term time from 9:00-11:00 for language teachers and 11:00-12:00 for drawing/Martial Arts teachers.
To apply, please send your CV via email to ed_accs@yahoo.co.uk before 30 April 2011.
The night of 13th February was a very happy and successful for our school. There were over 200 guests celebrated the Chinese New Year with us. Many of them were local residents.
The children's show was extremely successful. Every pupil got the chance to show their talents as well as the Chinese language ability. see photo.
Music Aid concert was held at Fairmilehead Parish Church on 15th January. £268 was raised and the money will be donated to a charity in China chosen by our performers.
This concert is initiated by the Chinese children who were born in Britain. The money raised from the concert will be used to support the children in China who cannot afford a proper education.
In the last two months (August and September 2010), we have received four donations, which are from two organizations and three individuals:
Martine Currie Charitable Foundation donated £1500
Dr Yun Liu and her family donated £300
Ms Shan You Merson donated £82.5
Pagan Osborne Ltd donated £40
This is the second kind donation we received from the Martin Currie Charitable Foundation. The Foundation is run by the staff of Martin Currie, an Edinburgh-based investment management business with longstanding links to China. The school has made significant improvements in the year 2009/2010 and Martin Currie's support has played an important role in this success.
In loving memory of Steven Liu for his happy time during his study at our Chinese school, Dr Yun Liu and Dr Xiaofeng Gao have made annual donations to the school fund since 2007. Their continuing support is highly appreciated.
We express our sincere appreciation to all our donators here and we believe that the school will continue to benefit from their generous support. Letters of thanks from the School Board and the Headteacher have been sent to these institutions/individuals.
For previous donations, see Donations.
If you wish to make a donation to the school, or would like to sponsor a school event such as Chinese New Year or organise a fund raising event, please send an email to ed_accs@yahoo.co.uk.
A crew of BBC filmed Alba Cathay Chinese School on the 26th of January 2008.
The documentary is to introduce the Chinese community in Scotland. Since Alba Cathay Chinese School plays a important part in Chinese community in Edinburgh, not just provides education to school age kids, but also pull the Chinese community member together. Aiming to this concept, BBC filmed Chinese class teaching, dance group and also the sports team.
